Nidya Kartikasari
Nidya Kartikasari entered Indonesia’s diplomatic service in 2003 after studying international relations at Padjadjaran University. She served in the political section of the Tokyo embassy from 2008 to 2012 and as economic consul in Shanghai from 2015 to 2019. She also earned a master’s degree in public policy and a doctorate in international relations at Japan’s National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies. 1
Her doctoral research examined how Japanese and South Korean immigration policies affected Indonesian workers. Drawing on fieldwork, she compared employment, social and religious life, and remittances, and considered the consequences of treating migrants as trainees or as workers protected by labor law. 2
From 2021, Kartikasari directed American and European intra- and interregional cooperation at the Foreign Ministry. She co-chaired the cooperation subcommittee under the Indonesia–EFTA economic partnership and led negotiations on the cooperation elements of proposed agreements with the European Union and Eurasian Economic Union. 1
In Washington, she served as chargé d’affaires before Ambassador Indroyono Soesilo’s arrival in September 2025. She opened that month’s Indonesia Tourism, Trade, and Investment Forum, which brought American businesses together with Indonesian investment, central bank, and trade officials to discuss healthcare, education, technology, tourism, and manufacturing. She then handed the mission to Soesilo and continued as deputy chief of mission. 3, 4, 5
