Gustavo Petricioli Iturbide

Gustavo Petricioli studied economics at ITAM and completed a master's degree at Yale. He directed ITAM from 1953 to 1958, helping the institution secure official recognition of its studies. His public career took him through the Bank of Mexico, senior revenue and financial policy offices, and the National Securities Commission. He became director of Nacional Financiera in 1982 and finance secretary in 1986. ^{1, 2}

At the Finance Ministry, Petricioli worked on fiscal restraint, credit institutions, and efforts to control inflation during a period of heavy debt and financial instability. He then served as ambassador to the United States from 1989 to 1993. His Washington assignment accompanied the preparation and negotiation of NAFTA; Mexican institutional accounts credit him with improving bilateral relations and participating in the effort to secure the agreement. ^{2, 1}

After Washington, Petricioli directed Caminos y Puentes Federales, the federal roads and bridges agency. He retained close ties to ITAM, including service on its governing board. He died in October 1998. ^{2, 1}
