Cayetano Romero

Cayetano Romero belonged to the diplomatic circle surrounding his brother Matías Romero. He held responsibility for the Washington legation's archives in 1868–69, a custodial appointment without ministerial rank. 1, 2

In December 1892 he pressed Secretary of State John W. Foster for action after an attack by Garza's followers on a Mexican border garrison. He supplied information from the consul at Laredo and pointed to American newspaper reports. In February 1893, after American troops captured three alleged participants, he thanked Foster, reported the extradition proceedings, and praised the soldiers' pursuit. 3, 4

Romero subsequently worked in the consular service. He was recognized as Mexican consul general in San Francisco in 1904. 5, 6
