Singapore Hosts the Donald Trump-Kim Jong Un Summit
12 June 2018
At the request of both governments, Singapore hosted Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un on 12 June 2018 for the first summit between a sitting American president and a North Korean leader. Singapore supplied a secure venue, transport, communications, and support for the delegations and international media. [1] [2]
Singapore’s foreign minister explained the regional purpose of hosting the talks: less tension and better prospects for peace would benefit countries beyond the two participants. [1]
The leaders coupled an American commitment to provide security guarantees with a North Korean commitment to work towards denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula. [2]
