Kazakhstan Establishes Its Embassy in Washington
1992-10-30
Kazakhstan established its embassy in Washington on 30 October 1992, less than a year after independence from the Soviet Union. [2]
The presidents had already set an extensive agenda. During Nursultan Nazarbayev’s first Washington visit as the head of an independent Kazakhstan in May, he and George H. W. Bush signed agreements on trade, investment, and American investment insurance. They also discussed nuclear disarmament and help with the transition from a centrally planned economy. [1]
Bush proposed regular high level contact and a committee to connect businesses, alongside technical assistance with food distribution and the conversion of military industry to civilian production. [1] [2]
