Qin Gang

Qin Gang worked in the Beijing Service Bureau for Diplomatic Missions before entering the foreign ministry’s West European department. Three postings in Britain alternated with assignments in Beijing. He became a familiar public spokesman for the ministry, then directed its protocol department and rose to vice minister in 2018. ¹

Qin became ambassador to the United States in 2021. His Washington posting ended in January 2023 after his appointment as foreign minister. On 25 July 2023, the National People’s Congress Standing Committee removed him from that office and appointed Wang Yi. The official announcement supplied no explanation for the removal. ^{1, 2, 3}
