Prince Alliata di Montereale e di Villafranca
Prince Giovanni Alliata di Montereale e di Villafranca (1877–1938) studied law at Palermo and social sciences in Florence. He entered diplomacy in 1903 and served in several European capitals. The ministry commended his conduct during Portugal’s 1910 revolution. 1, 2
As chargé in Washington in November 1919, Alliata handled correspondence about Italy’s proposed participation in an international banking consortium for China. Robert Lansing’s reply to him on 14 November deferred consideration of an Italian banking group until the consortium had been established. 3
He married Olga Matarazzo in São Paulo in 1920 and retired from the diplomatic service in 1927 with ministerial rank. He must be distinguished from Enrico Alliata, the Treasury official who handled wartime financial negotiations in Washington. 1, 2
