Olha Stefanishyna

Olha Stefanishyna specialized in international and European law before becoming a cabinet minister. Her career included the justice ministry, private legal practice, and leadership of the government office coordinating European and Euro-Atlantic integration. As deputy prime minister she directed Ukraine's work toward EU and NATO membership, and in June 2024 became chief negotiator for EU accession. She also served as justice minister and worked with the United Nations on support for survivors of sexual violence during the war. 1

Appointed ambassador to the United States in August 2025, Stefanishyna brought the return of abducted Ukrainian children before Congress. In testimony to a Senate Appropriations subcommittee on 3 December 2025, she described forced transfers, changes to children's identity, and obstacles to tracing them. She argued that their return should be central to peace discussions and appealed for international cooperation in finding and reintegrating children. 2

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy ended her ambassadorial appointment by decree on 3 August 2026. That month, Ukrainian anticorruption investigators formally notified her that she was suspected of illicit enrichment and false asset declarations. Stefanishyna and her lawyers rejected the allegations. Transparency International Ukraine reported completion of the pretrial investigation in October 2026; the inspected record did not establish a conviction. 3, 4, 5, 6
