Marco Peronaci
Marco Peronaci studied political science at Rome’s La Sapienza University and international relations at SIOI, passing the diplomatic service examination in 1988. Early postings took him to Kampala, Tokyo, and Paris. He later worked at Italy’s representation to the European Union and advised the ministers of justice and the interior. 1
Much of his senior career concerned European institutions and security. As deputy permanent representative to the EU, he chaired Coreper I during Italy’s 2014 EU presidency. He subsequently served as foreign ministry spokesman, special envoy for Brexit, representative to the EU Political and Security Committee, and permanent representative to NATO before becoming ambassador in Washington in 2025. 1
Peronaci chose Texas for his first official trip outside Washington in September 2025. He met Governor Greg Abbott, Italian business and community representatives, and astronaut Luca Parmitano at NASA’s Johnson Space Center, emphasizing cooperation in energy, space, medicine, and biotechnology. In October 2026 he participated in the embassy’s launch of the Italy–U.S. Trusted Technology Accelerator with the Transatlantic Harmonic Foundation and Purdue’s Krach Institute. The programme was designed to connect companies, researchers, and investors working on artificial intelligence, energy, and life sciences. 2, 3
