Li Kexin
Li Kexin entered the foreign ministry after studying at Beijing International Studies University and later pursued postgraduate study at the London School of Economics. His career combined multilateral diplomacy and economics: he served in the ministry’s international organizations department, at China’s United Nations mission, and as deputy director general for international economic affairs. He also spent two years as deputy mayor of Duyun in Guizhou. 1
Li joined the Washington embassy as minister in May 2015 and became deputy chief of mission. Speaking as chargé d’affaires at the Carnegie Endowment’s U.S.–China dialogue in July 2019, he argued against economic decoupling and discussed Taiwan, Xinjiang, trade, and defense with participants. He connected the dispute over bilateral ties to cooperation on climate, public health, and nonproliferation. 1, 2
