Iwan Freddy Hari Susanto

Iwan Freddy Hari Susanto studied international law at Airlangga University in Surabaya and foreign affairs and trade at Monash University in Australia. His career included assignments in Canberra and Beijing and work in the Foreign Ministry’s East Asia and Pacific and ASEAN departments before he became deputy chief of mission in Washington. ¹

Susanto led the Washington mission during parts of 2020 and 2021. During the first pandemic year, he described embassy assistance to Indonesians whose livelihoods had been disrupted by closures and job losses. Staff delivered food, vitamins, and masks to vulnerable residents across the Washington region. He again became acting chief when Ambassador Muhammad Lutfi returned to Indonesia as trade minister in December 2020. ^{2, 1}

In April 2021, Susanto opened an online Indonesian language program organized by the embassy and the Education Ministry. The program served learners across the United States. After returning to Jakarta, he became director for American affairs I; in March 2024, he joined a Foreign Ministry visit to Batam State Polytechnic to discuss international cooperation, workforce preparation, and facilities for Indonesia’s semiconductor industry. ^{3, 4}
