Berndt von Staden

Berndt von Staden studied law in Bonn and Hamburg. His early diplomatic work included Brussels and responsibility for Soviet affairs at the Foreign Office. 1

Staden joined the European Economic Community in 1958 and moved to Washington in 1963. He returned to Bonn in 1968 and headed Political Department II from 1970 to 1973. After serving as ambassador in Washington from 1973 to 1979, he became a department head in the Federal Chancellery and then state secretary at the Foreign Office from 1981 to 1983. 3
