Georg Sibbern
Georg Sibbern trained in law and entered the foreign service in 1840. After secretarial posts in Saint Petersburg, Copenhagen, The Hague, and London, he became chargé d'affaires and consul general in Washington in 1850, receiving the rank of resident minister in 1854. He returned to Norway in 1856 and was appointed minister in Constantinople in 1858. 1
Sibbern's later career centered on the politics of the Swedish–Norwegian union. He was Norway's prime minister in Stockholm from 1859 to 1871, apart from a short interruption in 1861. He favored constitutional development along British lines and resigned after the failure of a proposed revision of the union agreement. He returned to diplomacy as minister in Paris from 1878 to 1884. 1
