Faruk Loğoğlu

Osman Faruk Loğoğlu studied at Brandeis University, earned a doctorate in political science at Princeton, and taught at Middlebury College before his diplomatic career. His later writings included a political biography of İsmet İnönü. 1

After serving as special adviser to the foreign minister, Loğoğlu became ambassador to Denmark and Azerbaijan. He rose to deputy undersecretary for multilateral affairs in 1998 and undersecretary in 2000, then moved to Washington in 2001. 1

His American posting spanned the rupture over the 2003 invasion of Iraq, when Türkiye’s parliament refused to permit an American ground offensive from Turkish territory. A contemporary JTA profile describes his efforts to explain Turkish concerns in Washington and American attitudes in Ankara. It also documents his close working relationship with Israeli ambassador Daniel Ayalon and outreach to American Jewish organizations. 2

After retiring from the foreign service in 2006, Loğoğlu headed the Eurasian Strategic Studies Center and served as deputy chairman of Türkiye’s national UNESCO commission. He represented Adana in parliament from 2011 to 2015 and held the Republican People’s Party portfolio for foreign relations. 1
