Ephraim Evron
Ephraim Evron studied history at the Hebrew University and served in the British army during the Second World War. He entered Israel's Foreign Ministry in 1948 and worked for Moshe Sharett, David Ben-Gurion, and Pinhas Lavon. His association with Lavon during the political controversy over the failed 1954 covert operation in Egypt interrupted his government career; he subsequently represented the Histadrut in the United States. 1
Evron returned to diplomacy in London and served as minister at the Washington embassy from 1965 to 1968. He later held embassies in Sweden and Canada and became director general of the Foreign Ministry. As Washington ambassador after 1978, he handled communications over implementation of the Egyptian–Israeli peace treaty. In October 1979 he conveyed Menachem Begin's request that President Carter help settle disagreement over the price of Egyptian oil supplied to Israel after its withdrawal from Sinai. 1, 2
