David Gustaf Anckarloo

David Gustaf Anckarloo moved from military service into the royal chancery and then into the Swedish consular service in North Africa. He worked in Algiers from 1801, served temporarily in Tangier, and became consul and then consul general in Algiers. His later appointments took him to Rio de Janeiro and, in 1831, to Washington. He was recalled from the American post in 1833. 1

Anckarloo also recorded the societies in which he served. A surviving manuscript collection includes letters written in Algiers between 1802 and 1811, annals covering Algeria from 1811 to 1821, and geographical accounts of Morocco and Algeria. 2
