Alfredo Ferrero Diez-Canseco

Alfredo Ferrero Diez-Canseco came to diplomacy through commercial law and trade policy. He graduated in law from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, earned a Harvard LL.M. in 1987, and studied the American legal system at Georgetown. As vice minister responsible for international trade negotiations and then minister of foreign trade and tourism in 2003–2006, he worked on Peru’s export and tourism strategies and the development of trade agreements with Asian partners. ¹

Ferrero signed the United States–Peru trade agreement for Peru in April 2006 after negotiations conducted during his ministerial tenure. His later book, Historias de un Desafío, recounted that negotiating effort. He also worked in corporate law and served on company boards. Those experiences preceded his appointment to the Washington embassy in 2024, where commercial relations again formed a substantial part of his work. ¹

On 22 April 2025 he joined Trade Minister Desilú León’s meeting with U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer. They discussed the new American tariff policy, supply chain security, and investment, with subsequent technical talks envisaged. In June 2026 Peru announced the conclusion of Ferrero’s mission through Supreme Resolution 084-2026-RE. ^{2, 3}
