An industrial engineer educated at the Universidad Iberoamericana, with further studies in Britain and the Netherlands, he first held development posts in Oaxaca and served as mayor of Oaxaca de Juárez. He later headed Mexican consulates in Toronto, San Antonio, Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles, and handled congressional affairs at the embassy in Washington.","His appointment as ambassador in 2016 came as the American election campaign intensified hostility toward Mexico and Mexican migrants. Sada described building contacts with both presidential campaigns, explaining the economic relationship to American audiences, and preparing consular assistance for people concerned about deportation. In a November interview, he defended regional trade and rejected the proposal that Mexico should pay for a border wall. He also described an expanded telephone information service intended to protect migrants from misinformation and exploitation.","In January 2017, he returned to the foreign ministry as undersecretary for North America. He died in June 2023."],"id":"mexico:mx-carlos-manuel-sada-solana","identifiers":{},"legacyPersonIds":[],"legacyUrl":"https://chanceries.org/diplomat-96e74a1f46cf0bf388aa.html","name":"Carlos Manuel Sada Solana","notes":[],"paragraphSources":[["sada-ascoa"],["sada-pbs","sada-voa"],["sada-ascoa","sada-obit"]],"profileUrl":"diplomat-96e74a1f46cf0bf388aa.html","relatedEvents":[],"relatedPeople":[],"relationships":[],"researchStatus":"reviewed","reviewedOn":"2026-10-28","revision":"d9da0e09b4920925","sources":[{"accessedOn":"2026-10-28","date":null,"id":"sada-ascoa","locator":"English and Spanish biography","publisher":"Americas Society/Council of the Americas","title":"Carlos Manuel Sada Solana","type":"official-biography","url":"https://www.as-coa.org/speakers/carlos-manuel-sada-solana"},{"accessedOn":"2026-10-28","date":"2016-11-30","id":"sada-pbs","locator":"Arizona Horizon interview transcript","publisher":"Arizona PBS","title":"Mexican Ambassador to U.S.","type":"primary-record","url":"https://azpbs.org/horizon/2016/11/mexican-ambassador-to-u-s/"},{"accessedOn":"2026-10-28","date":"2016-04-06","id":"sada-voa","locator":"Appointment and foreign minister's explanation","publisher":"Voice of America","title":"Mexico Switches Its US Envoy to Combat Anti-Mexican Vitriol","type":"contemporary-report","url":"https://www.voanews.com/a/mexico-switches-its-us-envoy-combat-anti-mexican-vitriol/3273284.html"},{"accessedOn":"2026-10-28","date":"2023-06-08","id":"sada-obit","locator":"Obituary","publisher":"La Jornada","title":"Fallece Carlos Sada Solana, ex embajador de México en EU","type":"contemporary-report","url":"https://www.jornada.com.mx/noticia/2023/06/08/politica/fallece-carlos-sada-solana-ex-embajador-de-mexico-en-eu-351"},{"accessedOn":"","date":"","id":"mission-9fe6d5f27d546bc5f4ec","locator":"Official historical roster.
