His Washington mission in 1954–1960 followed the agreements that established American defense facilities and assistance in Spain.","Areilza later moved away from Franco and worked with Juan de Borbón’s monarchist circle. After Franco’s death he became foreign minister in the first government of Juan Carlos I.
