On 29 December he and the operations chief reviewed how to reinforce the improvised response, including staff at the consulate, airport, and local administration, and checks on hospitals treating Swedish survivors. The official inquiry also found serious failures in Sweden's wider response.","In Washington, Hafström took part in educational and commercial diplomacy. In 2013 he presented a scholarship jointly funded by Lund University and the Swedish Institute to an American student entering an environmental management program. After returning to Sweden, he led trade delegations and advised embassy staff on export promotion.
