J. Bahadur Singh came from Tunapuna in Trinidad and became a diplomat in India's service. His friend, the Trinidadian diplomat Reginald Dumas, later recalled speaking at a memorial service for him in 1990.","As chargé in Washington in June 1953, Singh conveyed questions from Beijing through Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru about North Korean prisoners released by South Korea. He asked American officials whether the prisoners were being recruited into the South Korean army and whether the UN Command controlled that process. The exchange concerned the credibility of arrangements for an armistice and the custody of prisoners.","Singh subsequently served as India's political officer in Sikkim. In 1961–63 he dealt with Palden Thondup Namgyal over border relations, permits, diplomatic visits, and the presence of Indian officers. His later scholarly work included editing Indians in Southeast Asia, published in 1982."],"id":"india:i. j. bahadur singh","identifiers":{},"legacyPersonIds":[],"legacyUrl":"https://chanceries.org/diplomat-8e6a5691fe62a0300ec2.html","name":"I.
