He attended the Petrischule from 1792. Russian official calendars place him at the mission in Philadelphia in 1815, 1822, and 1823; by January 1823 he was acting as chargé d’affaires.","On 10 January 1823 Ellisen joined John Quincy Adams and the British minister Stratford Canning to exchange ratifications of a convention negotiated under Russian mediation. It implemented an award concerning British compensation for property, including enslaved people, removed from territories covered by the Treaty of Ghent. When disagreements over the certificates threatened to prolong the formalities, Ellisen proposed a French protocol that retained the substance of Adams’s draft. The parties accepted it and completed the exchange after several hours. His colleague Baron Maltitz helped compare the ratified texts.","Ellisen also reported on Mexico’s diplomatic arrival and American proposals to occupy the Columbia River. The Amburger database places him in Russia’s Foreign Ministry in 1832."],"id":"russia:george ellisen","identifiers":{},"legacyPersonIds":[],"legacyUrl":"https://chanceries.org/diplomat-c38ac0c2f042701b242f.html","name":"George Ellisen","notes":[],"paragraphSources":[["ellisen-amburger","ellisen-diary"],["ellisen-diary","ellisen-convention"],["ellisen-golder","ellisen-amburger"]],"profileUrl":"diplomat-c38ac0c2f042701b242f.html","relatedEvents":[],"relatedPeople":[{"certainty":"documented","name":"Baron de Maltitz","note":"Worked together at the January 1823 ratification exchange.","profileUrl":"diplomat-f1dcd7309d4f3a21e07e.html","sourceIds":["ellisen-diary"],"targetId":"russia:baron de maltitz","type":"collaboration"}],"relationships":[{"certainty":"documented","note":"Worked together at the January 1823 ratification exchange.","sourceIds":["ellisen-diary"],"targetId":"russia:baron de maltitz","type":"collaboration"}],"researchStatus":"limited","reviewedOn":"2026-10-28","revision":"22fa70e947d47601","sources":[{"accessedOn":"2026-10-28","date":"","id":"ellisen-amburger","locator":"Record 15473, internal oid 16100; education, career, sources Mesjacoslov 1815, 1822, 1823, 1833","publisher":"Leibniz Institute for East and Southeast European Studies, Erik Amburger Database","title":"Ellisen, Georg Friedrich / Egor Eg.","type":"archive","url":"https://amburger.ios-regensburg.de/index.php?id=15473"},{"accessedOn":"2026-10-28","date":"","id":"ellisen-diary","locator":"Ratification exchange; Ellisen’s proposed protocol","publisher":"Massachusetts Historical Society, Primary Source Cooperative","title":"John Quincy Adams diary, 10 January 1823","type":"primary-record","url":"https://www.primarysourcecoop.org/publications/jqa/document/jqadiaries-v34-1823-01-p001--entry10"},{"accessedOn":"2026-10-28","date":"","id":"ellisen-convention","locator":"p. 282, opening statement and arbitral award","publisher":"United States Statutes at Large, vol. 8 / Wikisource","title":"Treaty with Great Britain, 12 July 1822","type":"primary-record","url":"https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Page:United_States_Statutes_at_Large_Volume_8.djvu/294"},{"accessedOn":"2026-10-28","date":"","id":"ellisen-golder","locator":"pp. 40–41, Ellisen’s December 1822–March 1823 dispatches","publisher":"Carnegie Institution of Washington / Internet Archive","title":"Frank A.
