He became Kazakhstan's first ambassador to the United States, serving from 1992 to 1994.","In a 2013 interview, Djambourchine described the practical difficulties of representing a new state: a shortage of trained diplomats, scarce foreign currency, and limited knowledge of Kazakhstan among prospective partners. He recalled the need to attract investment while screening opportunistic business proposals. Training colleagues to negotiate and prepare agreements was part of the same effort to create a foreign service with very little institutional experience of its own.","His later work included leadership of the Kazakh-American mining joint venture Kazmincorp. He also shared his diplomatic experience with students.
